EMDR focuses on how traumatic memories are stored in the brain. When we experience something distressing, our brain can become overwhelmed and "freeze" in the moment, storing the memory with all its intense feelings, sights, sounds, and thoughts. These memories can become "stuck" and continue to trigger uncomfortable emotions, like anxiety, fear, or shame, long after the event has passed.
During EMDR, we work to help your brain "unstick" these memories, reprocessing them in a way that reduces their emotional intensity. EMDR allows your brain to finish processing these memories so that they no longer have the same emotional charge and no longer control your present-day life.
Internal Family Systems is a therapeutic approach that addresses inner conflict and the different "parts" within us. Clients often come to IFS feeling uncertain about their own behaviors and emotions, not fully understanding why they react the way they do. Through treatment, they gain a deeper understanding and compassion for how their inner parts developed and shaped who they are. By learning to communicate with these parts in a way that feels guided by their true, authentic Self, clients leave with a stronger sense of self-leadership and internal harmony.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a trauma-focused treatment designed to help individuals address distressing beliefs, known as "stuck points," that can develop after a traumatic experience. Stuck points are thoughts that feel rigid and negative, like "It’s all my fault" or "I can’t trust anyone," and they often reinforce difficult emotions such as guilt, fear, or shame. These beliefs can prevent healing by keeping a person "stuck" in cycles of negative thinking.
CPT typically lasts about 12 sessions, during which clients work with their therapist to identify these stuck points, understand how they developed, and challenge them through structured exercises. By the end of treatment, clients often find that their emotions around the trauma are less intense and that they feel more in control of their thoughts. They frequently report reduced symptoms of PTSD, less distress in daily life, and an improved ability to trust, feel safe, and engage more fully with the world around them.
Written Exposure Therapy (WE) is a structured, evidence-based treatment that helps individuals work through distressing or traumatic memories by writing about them in a safe and supportive environment. The therapy typically consists of five sessions, during which you’ll be guided to write about your thoughts and feelings related to a specific trauma or difficult experience. Writing allows you to process emotions and thoughts that might feel overwhelming or "stuck," helping you confront and make sense of the memories at your own pace.
WE is especially helpful for those who may find it difficult to discuss traumatic experiences verbally, as the writing format provides a private, focused way to engage with the memory. Over time, clients often experience a reduction in symptoms like anxiety, fear, or avoidance related to the trauma. The goal of WE is to help you gain relief and feel more in control of your responses, allowing you to move forward with less distress and a greater sense of resilience.
For clients experiencing dissociation or living with dissociative disorders, such as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), our services provide a structured and compassionate approach to healing and integration. Dissociation often occurs when parts of the self become fragmented, each holding different memories, emotions, or roles in response to trauma. These "parts" develop to help you cope and survive difficult experiences, but over time, they may lead to internal conflicts, memory gaps, or feelings of detachment.
Our treatment is grounded in a three-phase trauma model: Safety, Remembering / Mourning, and Re-Integrating.
